Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that supports the body’s natural healing and nervous system regulation. It blends and melds with the body, creating a sense of safety for the client and allows the therapist to move beneath the radar of their defense system so as to initiate the body’s self correction process. Listening and respecting body’s innate wisdom- noninvasive touch that is received in the body’s own timing. It can benefit a wide range of physical, emotional, and developmental concerns for adults, children, and postpartum parents.
It focuses on optimizing the function of the craniosacral system—the network of membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. Developed from osteopathic principles, CST is based on the idea that subtle rhythmic movements of this system can influence the central nervous system and overall bodily function. Through birth, development, and living our daily lives, the body can store tension patterns and stored energy that becomes restrictions if they aren't released. These restrictions can be caused by physical trauma, stress, or chronic tension, which may interfere with the body’s natural healing processes. By promoting the free flow of cerebrospinal fluid, releasing restrictions, supporting the body in restoring its own equilibrium and balancing the craniosacral system, CST can enhance the performance of the central nervous system and support other body systems, including the musculoskeletal, circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems. CST has also been found to help address the physical aspects associated with conditions such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress.
By encouraging the body’s inherent ability to heal, CST is increasingly used not only as a therapeutic intervention but also as a preventive wellness practice. It may benefit individuals seeking relief or support for a wide variety of health concerns, from chronic pain and headaches to stress-related disorders and general overall well-being.
